Right now, it’s more important than ever because Donald Trump has just been re-elected as President. During his first time in office, his Administration took away important protections from women and blocked the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) from being added to the Constitution and JD Vance voted against the amendment in the Senate.

The ERA is an important  amendment to the Constitution that would make sure no one faces discrimination just because of their gender. This would help protect us against injustices such as  gender-based violence, the banning of birth control, and unequal pay for men and women.Without the ERA, these problems are much harder to resolve.

President Biden has shown support for the ERA and gender equality throughout his career. It would only be fitting, then, to add the ERA to the U.S. Constitution under a Biden Administration as the next part of his legacy.

With Trump soon to be President again, we are worried that the progress we’ve made toward equal rights could be taken away. That’s why we’re working hard right now to get the ERA added to the Constitution – before President Biden leaves the White House. The ERA has met all the requirements it needs to be added, including approval by enough states, but it’s still waiting to be published. Without it, true gender equality is out of reach, and rights we count on could be taken away.

If the ERA becomes part of the Constitution, it would be a strong protection against discrimination on the basis of  sex. Basic human rights shouldn’t be left at risk. So, over the next 60 days, we’re pressing Congress and asking President Biden to ensure the ERA is published, so that equality is guaranteed for everyone, once and for all.
