In our current political environment, where every hard-won movementโ€“Civil Rights, Women's Suffrage, Reproductive Rights, and LGBTQIA+ rightsโ€“is being systematically unraveled, how can one maintain hope, determination, and momentum for achieving something that feels so out of reach, such as solidified equal rights through the law?

Itโ€™s time we take charge of the narrative. The 28th Amendment is the law of the land, with the full force of the American people behind it. In doing so, we keep the dream alive. What a great joy it is to envision and fight for a world where everyone is healthy, accepted, safe, respected, and protected under the law.

We know this wonโ€™t be easy, but we can accomplish this together, by holding each other, creating equal space. This includes allowing space for pain, grief, disappointment, humiliation, and fear. An integral piece of any movement is holding space for us to feel all of the emotions of the struggle because that is exactly what it is โ€“ a struggle. The acknowledgment of the Equal Rights Amendment has been a decades-long dream that sometimes feels like it will never come true. Discouragement will arise, disappointment will come, but just as surely, hope will emergeโ€”as it always does.

But together, while holding each other, we hold equal space. Space for hope, joy, strength, and the privilege of helping create a world our ancestors envisioned and dedicated their lives to.

The work of our ancestors, our neighbors, and future generations fuels the ERA Coalition. We will continue to hold space for our achievements, victories, and disappointments while lifting each other up through it all, and amplifying the factual narrative that the ERA is the law of the land.
