The ERA Coalition, is an organization led by women of color and comprised of more than 260 allied organizations representing millions of people, whose common mission is to see the Equal Rights Amendment ratified and implemented within the United States Constitution. As we continue our fight towards the constitutional protections of those on the account of sex, many new organizations have followed suit and joined forces to become coalition members. As a show of our gratitude and continued support, we would like to take a moment to spotlight our newest members this month.

In August of 2022:

Thank you so much to all of our new partners for their essential support in pursuit of the continued ratification and implementation of the Equal Rights Amendment within the United States Constitution. This month’s member highlights include New American Leaders, HALE o Hawai’i, and UAW Women’s Department!

New American Leaders

New American Leaders is the leading movement for inclusive democracy by preparing first and second generation Americans to run, win, and lead. They believe that a strong democracy is an inclusive democracy, and as the only organization championing New Americans as crucial participants in the American political system, they provide the resources needed to ensure they are included, represented, and engaged in our democracy.  With alumni in elected offices across the country, New American Leaders are closer than ever to making their dream a reality. As we all enter into a new decade, New American Leaders has partnered with the Equal Rights Amendment Coalition to encourage you to join the movement and help us achieve a democracy that is truly of, by, and for all people.

HALE o Hawai’i

HALE o Hawaiʻi, a Community Land Trust (CLT), was created to put homeownership within the reach of the working families of Hawaiʻi County. They partner with developers and industry partners to build new affordable units, as well as acquire distressed properties for renovation and community revitalization. When you buy a home from HALE o Hawai’i, you own the house your family lives in, while the community land trust owns the land on which your home sits. Homebuyers receive deeds to their home and a 99-year renewable ground lease to the land on which their home is located. By not having to pay for the speculative price of the land, the homes are much more affordable and when homeowners choose to sell, they receive a fair share of equity, capped by a resale formula, ensuring affordability for the next homebuyer. HALE o Hawai’i has joined the ERA Coalition community to highlight this increasingly important equity at an even greater level.

UAW Women’s Department

The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) is one of the largest and most diverse unions in North America, with members in virtually every sector of the economy. UAW-represented workplaces range from multinational corporations, small manufacturers and state and local governments to colleges and universities, hospitals and private non-profit organizations. It has more than 400,000 active members and more than 580,000 retired members in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, and there are more than 600 local unions in the UAW. It also currently has 1,750 contracts with roughly 1,050 employers in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. A unique strength of the UAW is the solidarity between its active and retired members, and a solid majority of the union’s retirees stay actively involved in the life of their union, participating in retiree chapters and playing a vital role in the UAW’s community action program. Since its founding in 1935, the UAW has consistently developed innovative partnerships with employers and negotiated industry-leading wages and benefits for its members, and is partnering with the ERA Coalition this month to expand horizons within their activism and community, ensuring recognition and private protections for the increasing number of women included in their workforce.
