Carol Jenkins has been an indefatigable leader of equal rights as CEO & President of the ERA Coalition and the Fund for Women’s Equality. Following eight years as the leader of the effort to codify the Equal Rights Amendment into the U.S. Constitution, Carol is stepping aside from her position at the end of March 2022, while continuing to support our work as a member of our Board of Directors.
Her deep commitment, clear vision, and exceptional leadership has helped garner the ratification votes from the last of the 38 states needed, assisted in the successful vote to remove the time limit in the U.S. House twice and has shepherded the introduction of SJ Res 1 in the US Senate in the first days of the Biden-Harris administration. Carol has also amplified the interconnectedness of Equality with other social justice movements through a series of town halls that have garnered thousands of views and she has elevated the conversation around why equality matters in political, corporate, and societal settings.
Under Carol’s leadership, the ERA Coalition has grown to nearly 200 partners. She has expanded the boards of the Coalition and Fund to their most diverse and engaged levels, attracted new institutional and individual donors even in these most challenged pandemic times, and doubled the staff size.
The Boards of the ERA Coalition and the Fund for Women’s Equality have initiated a national leadership search process with the assistance of Koya Partners. Along with a Leadership Search Committee, we are confident in finding Carol’s successor and ensuring a healthy leadership transition.
