Equal Rights Amendment Coalition, Fund for Women’s Equality Welcomes Six New Board Members

Devika Bulchandani, Caroline Clarke, Alyssa Milano, Bamby Salcedo, Kamilah Willingham, Fran Zone Join ERA Coalition, Fund for Women’s Equality Boards

Washington, DC –– Today, the ERA Coalition, a women of color-led organization representing millions of people and more than 200 allied organizations whose shared goal is to see the Equal Rights Amendment as part of the U.S. Constitution, and the Fund for Women’s Equality, the national organization that promotes legal and lived equality for women in the United States, announced six new members to the organization’s board. The ERA Coalition board, chaired by Kimberly Peeler-Allen, and the Fund for Women’s Equality board, chaired by S. Mona Sinha, represents a diverse array of civil rights and gender equity leaders from across the country. 

“Millions of people across the country are diligently pushing the U.S. Senate to pass the resolution needed to remove the time limit on ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment and enshrine legal protections against sex discrimination for all Americans,” said Carol Jenkins, President and CEO of the ERA Coalition/Fund for Women’s Equality.  “We’re proud to welcome these six incredible, accomplished women to our board at such a critical time for the women’s equality movement.” 

Devika Bulchandani is the CEO of Ogilvy North America & Global Chairwoman of Advertising. Previously, Devika served as President of McCann North America, where under her leadership in 2019 was named the 2019 Most Creatively Effective Agency Network in the U.S. by the Effie Awards. In addition to serving on the ERA Coalition’s board, she is an active board member of the Ad Council, the 4A’s, and the Advertising Club. She is also a founding member of Times Up Advertising, where she has tirelessly championed equality for women in advertising — particularly for women of color.

Caroline Clark is an award-winning journalist, author, brand architect, public speaker, broadcaster, and founder of Black Enterprise Women of Power, which hosts the Women of Power Summit, the nation’s largest annual conference for Black women business leaders. Caroline has published two critically acclaimed books, including “Postcards from Cookie” which was named Best Memoir of 2014 by Essence magazine and “Take a Lesson: Today’s Black Achievers on How They Made It & What They Learned Along the Way.”

Alyssa Milano is an actress and activist who has been involved in TimesUp since its inception, advancing #MeToo and helping spark a viral movement of women fighting against sexual harassment and assault. In the wake of the mass shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School, Alyssa became one of the founders of NoRA, a coalition dedicated to combating the NRA money in political campaigns so that common sense gun reform can be enacted. She has lobbied members of congress for greater rights for immigrants as well as education reform and has been on the forefront of efforts to protect health coverage for all Americans.

Bamby Salcedo is the President and CEO of the TransLatin@ Coalition, a national organization that focuses on addressing the issues of transgender Latin@s in the US. Bamby developed the Center for Violence Prevention & Transgender Wellness, a multipurpose, multiservice space for Trans people in Los Angeles. Bamby’s remarkable and wide-ranging activist work has brought voice and visibility to not only the trans community, but also to the multiple overlapping communities and issues that her life has touched including migration, HIV, youth, LGBT, incarceration and Latin@ communities.

​​Kamilah Willingham is a feminist writer, speaker, and activist. Since graduating Harvard Law School in 2011, she has worked to advance the rights of survivors of sexual violence in prisons, schools, and beyond, highlighting the culture of silence and inequity that dominates social and systemic responses to gender-based violence. Kamilah shared her personal experience of surviving sexual assault and civil rights violations as a student at Harvard Law School in the award-winning 2015 documentary The Hunting Ground.

Fran Zone is an award-winning broadcast producer, leadership communication expert, executive coach, and founder and president of San Francisco based Zone Communication. Fran was invited to Fortune Magazine’s ‘Most Powerful Women in Business Summit’ and named the ‘Headliner of the Year Award’ for lifetime achievement in the field of communication. An expert on women’s leadership challenges in the workplace, Fran has been recruited to create leadership communication programs, keynotes and curriculum for women in corporations  worldwide.

The ERA Coalition was founded in 2014 to bring concerted, organized action to the effort to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. The ERA Coalition has a sister organization, the Fund for Women’s Equality, which promotes public education and outreach on the need for constitutional equality. Comprised of more than one hundred and 150 organizations across the country, the Coalition provides education and advocacy on Constitutional Equality. 

While the effort to amend the constitution to include sex equality began nearly a century ago, our renewed efforts are centered on Black, Indigenous and Women of Color, gender-nonconforming and transgender women and girls, and nonbinary people– those who are most impacted by systemic inequities.
