Why Young Men in the US Should Pay Attention to and Advocate for the Equal Rights Amendment

Every year, June 4th marks a momentous day for women’s suffrage in the U.S. Congress, but this year especially so. It’s the day in 1919 when the U.S. Congress passed the 19th Amendment and sent it to the states for approval. Then just 14 months later, 100 years ago this August, women were officially granted the Constitutional right to vote.
To commemorate the anniversary this year, Senators Cardin and Murkowski are scheduled to hold a colloquy on the Equal Rights Amendment on the floor of the U.S. Senate on Thursday at 2:15pm EDT. They are the lead co-sponsors of SJ Res 6, the bill to remove the time limit on the Equal Rights Amendment.
We were intrigued by the word “colloquy” so decided to look it up and share the definition with you.
Colloquy (n) A formal conversation between two people. In Congress, a member of the House or Senate may motion to enter into a colloquy with a fellow member – meaning the members can converse directly with one another without having to address their comments through the speaker of the House or president pro tempore of the Senate.
