Please join us in an urgent action: sign our petition to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer to hold a floor vote on HJ Res 79, the bill to remove the time limit on the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).

The ERA is on the brink of becoming a reality: equality for girls and women is within our reach. Virginia is poised to become the 38th and final state we need for ratification in early 2020. As you know, when Congress passed the ERA in 1972, they included a 7-year time limit. We are asking Congress to take action to vote off the time limit, written into the amendment's preamble, not the amendment itself voted on by the states. There should be no ambiguity surrounding women’s equality.

The ERA Coalition is leading the effort to lobby Congress to remove the ratification time limit. On November 13th, the House Judiciary Committee voted 21-11 to send Congresswoman Jackie Speier's bill, HJ Res 79, to the House floor for a vote. With 223 cosponsors, we have the votes for passage--we just need a vote scheduled. Your joining us in this effort will move us closer. We are also working on the Senate version of the time limit removal, SJ Res 6, a bi-partisan bill co-led by Senators Ben Cardin and Lisa Murkowski.

Please share this email with your friends and networks and ask them to go to: www.eracoalition.org/eravote. There should be no time limit on equality!

We hope you will participate in this work to ensure that equality is intended for all.
